Is it foggy in here?

For me, Fibro fog has been one of the very worst tortures of having fibromyalgia. Like a thief in the night, it crept up quietly on me at first; I hardly even noticed it. As it got worse I found myself shaken to the very core…. Was I going crazy?

Why don’t we talk more?

I have noticed that many Fibromyalgia sufferers who have participated in worldwide social networks and chat sites on the internet have commented, on how little there is known about it and how few medical practitioners know about the condition and those that do know what it is, are often uncomfortable diagnosing and treating it themselves.
I wondered to myself, why isn’t there more awareness about it? Not just in the medical community, but in the wider community? Why don’t more people talk about Fibro? But in hindsight I can sort of understand why. There is an incredible lag in symptoms first appearing and an actual diagnosis. What many people with Fibro probably won’t tell a mere acquaintance on the street or even family members about is the stigma that relates to this syndrome.

What Fibromyalgia feels like

At first I didn’t know how I would explain to all of my family and friends what the Rheumatologist had diagnosed me with, I was in a quandary. What exactly was Fibromyalgia, how could I easily explain that I had a mysterious unheard of syndrome, that even I, at the time knew nothing about, how could I tell people easily what it was like living with it? How could I make others understand what I had gone through (almost) silently for over a decade with, and thinking for a while there that I was crazy? Then it hit me:

For my first post I thought I would explain to you what my blog is about and what you can expect to find here. The aim of the Foggy Fibro Blog is to inform, educate, entertain and explore Fibromyalgia Syndrome, from the patient point of view.
